The actions of the men and women in blue always get scrutinized when it comes to how they conduct themselves with civilians. However, two Cape Town police officers went beyond the call of duty when they helped deliver a baby on Thursday, 20 January.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, officers of the Elsiesriver police station were called out to an address in Tiara Way in Leonsdale, where they found a man and woman waiting outside for the arrival of an ambulance, as the woman was already in labour.
“The police members advised that the women go inside and make herself comfortable. Once inside, the woman indicated that she was about to give birth.
“Constable Lucinda Raffie and her partner Sergeant Gert Swart reached for their gloves, and within a split second, the baby was delivered and landed into the capable hands of Constable Raffie,” Swartbooi said.
