The community of Khayelitsha has been rocked by yet another mass shooting which has killed four people.
The shooting occured on Tuesday at 7pm, with the gunmen opening fire at a local supermarket in Sulani Drive. Three of the victims were declared dead on the scene while the fourth was rushed to a nearby medical facility, as per IOL.
“Three of those shot inside the shop died on the scene, while a fourth victim, who was seriously injured, was transported to a medical facility for treatment. He later died in hospital as a result of the injuries,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa.
The identities of the victims have not been confirmed, while the motive for the shooting is still unknown, as per News24.
This is the fifth mass shooting to take place in Khayelitsha this year with the first occurring on 14 March 2022, killing five people. Dozens have since lost their lives with the latest shooting incident occurring on 8 May 2022 which saw six people lose their lives.
Police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist them with the investigation.
