Cape Town police have issued a warrant of arrest for Gugulethu resident, Lwazi Sibindana, who is wanted on a charge of murder. Sibindana allegedly poured petrol on his 40-year-old partner, Jacqueline Mpontsana, before setting her alight.
According to reports, Mpontsana, an experienced community safety worker who tracked police compliance regarding domestic violence, assisting victims of gender-based violence and domestic violence, died on Monday, September 27, after suffering severe burn wounds.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut has urged the public to come forward with information regarding Sibindana’s whereabouts.
“If you know the whereabouts of Lwazi Sibindana of Gugulethu, kindly contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 as he is wanted on a charge of murder,” Traut said.
Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz describes Mpontsana’s passing as especially tragic considering her line of work and standing within the community.
“What makes her passing especially tragic is that her work entailed inspecting SAPS stations for their compliance to assist victims of domestic and gender-based violence. It is incredibly upsetting,” he stated.
“But we have to go on. We cannot surrender in the face of this scourge. We have to keep fighting, for Jackie, and for every other victim like her,” Fritz reiterated.
