AirHelp, the world’s largest air passenger rights organisation, compiled flights between 1 January and 30 September 2023 and shortlisted 4 000 airports in their database to 194 based on flight traffic data and reports from air travellers.
To determine which airports offered the best services, the following deciding factors were considered:
- On-time performance is defined as any flight that arrives within 15 minutes of its published arrival time. It contributes 60% to the score.
- Customer opinion, which comprises 20% of the score, is assessed via a survey of 15 800 air travellers across 58 countries.
The Daily Maverick reports that travellers were also asked to assess the airports they visited most recently based on airport staff, waiting times, accessibility and cleanliness, on a scale from ‘very good’ to ‘very bad’.
